We have worked our special brand of magic since 1925 from the day our doors first opened on to a cobblestoned Lake Street; we have served vast neighborhoods of the land called “South Minneapolis” and our hats have always been off to our loyal and ever changing clientele.

This is the story of a simple and diligent boy living in the land of King Derwood of Didd. It is story of an unexplainable and fantastic day that starts with a peasant boy bringing cranberries to market. Along the way, the Kings guards passed by and all are commanded to remove their hats in deference. All but young Cubbins, for try as he might each time he removed his hat it was instantly replaced by another! No matter the admonishments and threats by the king’s official counter, the hat maker, the wise men and magicians; the flurry of hats kept coming! His hat remained in place even in the face of the executioner – who couldn’t execute him until his hat was removed. As the carpet of discarded hats grew they became more and more magnificent and only stopped at 500th hat! A hat, so breathtaking that King Derwood not only wished to possess it, but richly awarded young Cubbins with 500 pieces of gold!
